FAQ

  1. Common Questions

Here is a list of frequently asked questions about KING Aviation Mansfield and flight training as a whole. If your question is not answered here, feel free to give us a call or send us an email.

Does KING Aviation Mansfield offer flying lessons?

Yes, KING operates as an FAA Part 61 flight school and is capable of instructing pilots of all levels, beginning with the student pilot and working towards becoming a private pilot, instrument pilot, commercial pilot, flight instructor, instrument flight instructor, multi-engine pilot, and airline transport pilot.

What does FAA Part 141 or Part 61 flight school mean?

The FAA certifies two types of flight schools. Part 141 is a structured program designed for people who are looking to make aviation a career. Part 141 follows a strict syllabus. Part 61 is designed to allow the instructor and student flexibility during their training. Students can still look forward to an aviation career from a Part 61 school if desired as well. KING is a Part 61 school.

How long has KING Aviation been in business?

KING has been in business at the Mansfield Municipal Airport for over 19 years. Kelley and David (sister and brother) have over 50 years of aviation experience.

How long does it take to earn a Private Pilot Certificate (PPC)?

On average, a PPC can be obtained in a period of 3 months to 1 year. The average flight hours logged varies from 55 to 60 hours. The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours. Of those 40, 20 must be with an instructor and 20 must be solo flight time. Due to many factors, 55-60 hours tends to be the average required by students.

How expensive is it to get your Private Pilot License?

Costs vary based on how many hours it takes for the pilot to be ready for his or her check ride. Based on the average hours required (55-60), a student can expect to pay between $6000 - $8000 to receive a Private Pilot Certificate (PPC). Please give us a call for more specifics.

How old do I have to be to become a Private Pilot?

You may begin flight instruction at any age! You can solo at the age of 16 and can receive your PPC at age 17. KING Aviation Mansfield generally starts training kids at age 14.

What is a Cessna Pilot Center (CPC)?

A Cessna Pilot Center (CPC) is a specially selected flight school that represents top-notch professional flight training. Each CPC is hand picked by Cessna to ensure they maintain Cessna’s high standard for flight training. KING has been a Cessna Pilot Center since 2003.
